Rochfort Gallery - Representation
Statement from Rochfort Gallery

Rochfort Gallery is delighted to announce Joanne Duffy as one of our represented artists.

Our represented artists are carefully selected for their synergy with the Gallery’s values, artistic merit, authenticity and the artist’s lifelong commitment to producing work. A very limited number of artists are selected to be represented by the Gallery. Our primary philosophy is to promote Australian artists, both emerging and established.

Joanne’s classical and mythological interpretations of the landscape are rare in Australian art. The scale and expressionist freedom in her works exhibit the epic quality of our great lyrical masters such as James Gleeson, Robert Juniper but most notably that of Turner – known for his expressive colourisation and imaginative landscapes.

Rochfort Gallery sincerely believes in Joanne Duffy and her unique investigation of our senses’ response through colour, texture and movement when interpreting the Australian landscape.

“Hope - Escape to the Catalpa” depicts the heroic and desperate escape of the six Fenians from
Rockingham shores in an attempt to reach the Catalpa.
This is the moment of rising seas and a fierce squall as they made their way out to the whaleboat, out to
international waters
and their freedom.

It is now part of the City of Rockingham Art Collection.

Thank you to the City of Rockingham – Local Government for having such an event and encouraging arts in the region.

"In this opening exhibition some artists are terrestrial, gravitating to the magnetic power of the earth. Others follow the intricate meandering line of river tributaries or identify with the secret depths and primal force of the ocean. There is no “typical Australian scene”, instead, our native forests and farmed paddocks all serve to patch together a contrast of extremes. "

Collection One will feature 18 artists and 61 artworks

"89 Days" Art Exhibition

January 5-28th, Kidogo Arthouse, Bathers Beach, Fremantle

Fenians, Freedom and Fremantle Festival

January 5-28th, 2018

The “89 days” exhibition is a collection of new artworks from some of Western Australia’s best contemporary artists. The exhibition is a visual response to the poems and passages written by the Irish political prisoners (the Fenians) during the journey of the final convict ship to arrive in Australia, the Hougoumont, which landed in Fremantle on January 10th 1867.

While the literature that has inspired this exhibition was created on the journey to Fremantle, which lasted 89 days, it is the remarkable escape stories from Western Australia to the United States of several of the Fenians that has established the Fenian legend here in Western Australia.

Artists in Exhibition

Brad Durrant – Peter Barker – Sue Leeming – Joanne Duffy – Judy Rogers – Daniela Dlugcz – Peter Ross – Tanya Jaceglav – Ann Gee – Anastasia Komarnycki – John Mcintosh
