Covid-19 and the Art Industry

Impact on Trading

 * * * *

Due to Government restrictions during the Covid-19 crisis, all physical galleries have been ordered to close.
As a result Joanne's representing galleries, The Studio Gallery, Linton & Kay Galleries and Rochfort Gallery until further notice,
no longer have doors open to the public or are only available for private viewings.
They are still trading online and if you are looking for a new artwork, it is encouraged you contact them direct.

Many Art Awards and Community Art Shows are currently not possible and of course "pop-up" galleries are not an option.

As logistics and postage are still in operation, artworks can still safely be shipped across the country.
All artworks sold direct from the artist have a 14 day refund and return policy (conditions apply).

"What is Good?" by Joanne Duffy
oil on Belgian linen canvas, 100 x 100 cm

The Mandorla Art Award for contemporary religious art is Australia’s most significant thematic Christian art prize,
attracting some of the country’s finest artists since its 1985 inception.

Mandorla (MAN-dor-la) is an Italian word meaning almond. It refers to an almond-shaped halo or aura that we find around the images of Jesus or Mary in Christian art and particularly in icons. It represents the light that emanates from a divine being, or one very close to a divine being.

The Mandorla Art Award is held every two years in Perth, Western Australia and for each award a different theme is chosen for artists to respond to

2020 Theme

A REFLECTION ON MICAH Chapter 6, verse 8.

‘’He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does THE LORD
require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?”

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is not known if the 2020 exhibition will proceed.

2019 Rottnest Foundation Art Exhibition

"Island Lament, Wadjemup" by Joanne Duffy
oil on cotton paper, 50 x 50 cm

ROTTNEST FOUNDATION ART EXHIBITION
Over 100 artists have responded to the theme The Essence of Rottnest, creating inspired artworks
in support of the inaugural Rottnest Foundation Art Exhibition being held 11th to 19th May 2019.

Sandra Murray, Exhibition Curator, says “the field of invited artists is wide reaching, from emerging
to established, and from many regions, stretching from Albany to Kalgoorlie to Margaret River and interstate.
I am thrilled to present a unique exhibition that encompasses such a diverse, appealing range
of styles and approaches to Rottnest Island in the one show”.

The exhibition is a fundraising and promotional initiative of the Rottnest Foundation Inc. Funds
raised from the commission of the sale of artworks will contribute to environmental, cultural
and heritage conservation projects on the island.

The curatorial team decided on the singular approach of providing each artist with a 51cm x 51cm canvas;
ensuring all artworks are new and creating a dynamic installation for the gallery space.
The idea of using the same canvas size has encouraged artists to make artworks outside their traditional styles.

Rottnest Foundation Patron, Janet Holmes à Court AC, has welcomed the opportunity to host the exhibition
at the Holmes a Court Gallery in West Perth, saying “Rottnest Island, or Wadjemup,
holds a special place in the hearts of Western Australians and I extend an invitation to everyone
to come and view and purchase artworks in support of the valuable work of the Rottnest Foundation.”

"The artery of the river, the haunting shadow of the clouds and the power of the ocean, all of these embodiments of water unite in our paintings of the sea. On a formal level, it is a mistake to divide the tradition of landscape from seascape in a contrived boundary in the traditions of Australian painting. For although Australia boasts a vast, dry interior, our relationship to water is an eternal dynamic in the story told.

The sea, so often, is presented as a meditation for artists, a place to study dreams, spirituality and seek sanctuary from scorched earth. Water is the element more precious than gold in an unpredictable terrain. Each artist approaches it with their own eyes, their own sense of immediacy.

In “Girt by Sea”, Rochfort celebrates the diversity of vision in painting water and the curious innovations made possible by an aquatic palette. " - Rochfort Gallery

The new Rochfort Gallery is an exhibition hall unlike any other, and is reminiscent of the grand exhibition halls of the 1900’s. Over the past two years our 1920’s heritage building has been completely and meticulously restored for the purpose of a fine and applied arts emporium. Our primary philosophy is to promote Australian artists, both emerging and established. Rochfort Gallery has a strong understanding of the importance that the artist and artisan play in our community. We revel in the beautiful, the thoughtful and that which is formed by man from the Earth. We are an emporium dedicated to the service of the fine and applied arts.

Rochfort Gallery - Representation
Statement from Rochfort Gallery

Rochfort Gallery is delighted to announce Joanne Duffy as one of our represented artists.

Our represented artists are carefully selected for their synergy with the Gallery’s values, artistic merit, authenticity and the artist’s lifelong commitment to producing work. A very limited number of artists are selected to be represented by the Gallery. Our primary philosophy is to promote Australian artists, both emerging and established.

Joanne’s classical and mythological interpretations of the landscape are rare in Australian art. The scale and expressionist freedom in her works exhibit the epic quality of our great lyrical masters such as James Gleeson, Robert Juniper but most notably that of Turner – known for his expressive colourisation and imaginative landscapes.

Rochfort Gallery sincerely believes in Joanne Duffy and her unique investigation of our senses’ response through colour, texture and movement when interpreting the Australian landscape.

Fenians, Freedom and Fremantle Festival

January 5-28th, 2018

The “89 days” exhibition is a collection of new artworks from some of Western Australia’s best contemporary artists. The exhibition is a visual response to the poems and passages written by the Irish political prisoners (the Fenians) during the journey of the final convict ship to arrive in Australia, the Hougoumont, which landed in Fremantle on January 10th 1867.

While the literature that has inspired this exhibition was created on the journey to Fremantle, which lasted 89 days, it is the remarkable escape stories from Western Australia to the United States of several of the Fenians that has established the Fenian legend here in Western Australia.
